The Spartans head to Station Park this weekend as Douglas Samuel’s side look to continue their impressive unbeaten record on the road in the SPFL 2 this season when they take on Forfar Athletic.
Five out of five wins away from the Vanloq Community Stadium so far this campaign have contributed significantly towards the North Edinburgh outfit sitting in top spot in the table as the second quarter of the season continues to gather pace.
Captain Kevin Waugh will lead his side out looking to maintain the momentum the squad have built up so far however the Spartans skipper is wary of the threat the Loons offer when his side make the trip to Angus.
Looking ahead to the trip, Waugh said, “As a team, we set out this quarter with the aim of improving our home form, which we weren’t happy with and obviously the last two wins at home against East Kilbride have really helped boost that confidence. We’re certainly aware of our record on the road this season and we want to make sure that we maintain that strong away form, 5 out of 5 is hard to do at any level.
“It’s always tough at Forfar and they’ve been pretty strong at home so far this season, but we’ve actually got a decent enough record there. We had a couple of good wins there last year at important times of the season as well. At the end of the day, it’s a game of football. I mean, the surroundings of an away ground are one thing, but we both play our home games on astro so not much changes for us to be honest.
“We know what to expect – a big, physical, well organised side who carry a threat going forward. So we’re going to have to be guarded to that and we’re going to have to be at our best to get three points.”
Hosts Forfar will be looking to bounce back from last week’s 3-1 loss on the road at Stranraer and have a decent home record in the league so far, including back-to-back clean sheets in their last two league outings. Jim Weir’s side are one of four teams on 12 points in yet another tight table that sees only two points separate 4th from 9th!
