Douglas Samuel’s Spartans head take the familiar path of late over the Queensferry Crossing however it is for a thankfully closer to home trip on the road to Fife for tonight’s East of Scotland City Cup Final against Kelty Hearts (7.45pm).
Spartans go into the final on the back of a busy seven days that featured three clean sheets, two of which coming on their travels to Elgin and Forfar. It puts them on level pegging with Elgin who they meet at the Vanloq Community Stadium this Saturday.
Hosts Kelty sit mid-table in League 1 however a bit like Spartans, the gap between the clubs on either side is minimal therefore the opportunity for a play-off place is still very much in the mix with seven league games left to play.
With focus on promotion play-offs fixed on the respective side’s crosshairs, there may be an opportunity to see some promising young talent on the field and squad rotation within the selections come kick-off.

Tonight sees the 95th Final of a cup tournament first played for in 1903-94 season and won by Hearts for five seasons in a row.
The Spartans have won the trophy four times. First up in 1997-98 (v Livingston) then for three years on the bounce between 2004-05 and 2006-07 seasons – all against Berwick Rangers.
Berwick Rangers top the winners table with 31, defunct St Bernard’s with 12. Stirling University are the current holders.
