Premier Sports Cup Preview: Spartans v Stirling Albion

13 July 2026

The Spartans look to bounceback from their narrow defeat against Championship side Arbroath on Tuesday night when they welcome fellow SPFL 2 side Stirling Albion to the Vanloq Community Stadium in MD2 of the Premier Sports Cup.

Both clubs were unlucky in their opening tie of the tournament against loftier opponents – Spartans being edged out in the 85th minute whilst the Binos took Dundee United to injury time before a last gasp penalty gave the Premiership side the win.

Tuesday’s fixture is the tenth between the sides.  The first coming in January 2001 in the Scottish Cup second round at City Park.  Ken Hughes headed the then Non-League minnows into a 26th minute lead against the Second Division side however the visitors were to react strongly to run out 1-3 victors in the end.

Playing that day for Spartans was Terry Wilson.  The Broxburn-born defender/midfielder made over 100 appearances under Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest, making his debut at 18 and collecting 4 cup winners medals from Wembley Stadium during his time there.  Terry currently plys his trade as the CEO and Technical Director of Total Soccer Institute in California.

Head-To-Head: Played 9.  3 Wins, 3 Draws and 3 Losses.

Last time the teams locked horns was on the final day of the domestic season at Forthbank with Mark Stowe and Steven Lawless putting Spartans 2-0 up however the Binos clawed matters back as the sides shared the spoils.

Kick-off is 7.45pm.  Tickets can be purchased online at Fanbase or supporters can pay on the gate.
