It’s been a month since The Spartans took to the Vanloq Community Stadium pitch and after continuing their unbeaten run on the road, its back home for striker Marc McNulty and the William Hill SPFL 2 joint table-toppers for the visit of Elgin City.
McNulty bagged a brace at Borough Briggs in the earlier encounter between the clubs back in September, in a game Spartans were to edge out their hosts 2-3, with Mark Stowe adding the other crucial goal.
In the final game before Christmas, McNulty is keen to deliver Spartans fans the gift of goals and three points on Saturday against an Elgin side who, in reverse fortunes to Douglas Samuel’s men, make their first trip away from home in four weeks.
“It’s nice to be at home after you’ve been travelling away for what feels like a long time and obviously good for our fans who we hope will come along in numbers on Saturday to get behind the team.
“We’ve picked up a few draws recently therefore it’s important for us now that we’re back home this week to push on and take full points.”
It’s a busy festive period on the cards for McNulty and the Spartans lads, with a Monday night trip to play Montrose on rescheduled KDM Evolution Trophy business followed by a visit to Meadowbank next Saturday to take on Edinburgh City.
McNulty added, “I think at this point in the season, coming into the new year and if you’re wanting to go win the league and get promoted, you need to obviously have strong form home and away.
“It’s so important, especially around the Christmas period, to be focussed on the task in hand. I’ve been in football for long enough that the games come thick and fast and if you can put two or three wins together, then you know it can offer you the opportunity to open up a gap at times.
“But listen, we’ve been doing well and sometimes we’re probably a bit harsh on ourselves because of maybe drawn a wee bit too much recently, but we’re still joint top of the league. For the games that are coming up, we’ve got to be confident going in there as a unit to pick up full points along the way.”
