The Spartans open up their KDM Evolution Trophy campaign with a trip across the Forth to take on League 1 side East Fife at Bayview.
Dougie Samuel’s side go into the clash on the back of a frantic and feisty Edinburgh Derby encounter at the weekend whilst the hosts go into this MD1 tie following a 2-0 win over Cove at the weekend.
Both sides are likely to feature changes in their line-ups such is the nature of the tournament with more than a sprinkling of youth anticipated following a format change designed to strengthen youth development.
Last season the SPFL allowed 15-year-olds to play in the KDM Evolution Trophy for the first time and following the success of that trial, the SPFL amended its rules to allow 15-year-olds to play in all SPFL competitions this season.
Head to Head: The Spartans and East Fife have met 11 times in competitive games. Played 11 Won 2 Drawn 2 Lost 6 For 12 Against 20.
There have also been four meetings against East Fife Reserves during their stint in the East of Scotland League. Two of these were in the 1958-59 season which saw the men from Methil finish top of the table in an unfinished competition. The other pair of fixtures were in the East of Scotland League first and second phase sections during the 1966-67 season.
