The Spartans are delighted to announce the signing of Steven Lawless.
Lawless joins The Spartans as the SPFL 2 campaign enters the business end of the season – one the former Partick Thistle favourite is keen to bring success in at his new club.
On his arrival at the Vanloq Community Stadium, the 34-year-old winger said, “I wanted to really come somewhere where a club was playing for something, was competitive and have a great chance to go do something special.
“From a club point of view, that was what really motivated me to come and also, I’ve got a good few pals here that I’ve played a lot of years with and I know really well, so once I spoke to them and they told me about what the club was all about, then I realised it would be right fit for me.”
A product of Motherwell’s youth system, Lawless has played for several clubs including Livingston, Burton Albion & Dunfermline, however, it was his decade over two spells with Partick Thistle where he made 358 appearances, scored 49 times that saw him contribute significantly to their success, including winning the 1st Division title.
Lawless, who will wear the No.14 shirt, added, “I’d had another couple of offers from other clubs I could go to for the last few months of the season who maybe weren’t necessarily playing for anything that you can really write home about at the end of the season so when I weighed that up, I knew I wanted to to go somewhere to go and win something.”
The Spartans Manager Douglas Samuel said of the arrival of Lawless, “I’m delighted to bring someone of Steven’s proven pedigree in at this important stage of the season. It’s notoriously difficult to add genuine competition for places in January.
“The added bonus is Steven can play a number of different roles & positions in the front 6. I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
