SPFL 2: Loving his football is key goal for Stowe as trip to Elgin awaits

30 January 2026

He’s scored in all four competitions The Spartans have featured in so far this season and Tuesday night’s double against East Kilbride propelled Mark Stowe to the top of the SPFL 2 scoring charts.

The in-form striker is certainly enjoying the freedom to find success in front of goal and his reluctance to put additional pressure on himself through fanciful targets appears to be a key catalyst behind his 18-goal haul thus far.

The 26-year-old, who has already doubled his first season’s total of nine goals with just under half the season left to play noted, “If I’m honest, I probably hadn’t envisaged scoring as many by this stage but naturally I’m delighted to be in this position.  Setting myself season-long targets isn’t really my thing, I much prefer to take each game as it comes and focus on doing my job for the team.  So far, it’s worked out quite well and long may it continue.”

Next on the radar for Stowe is Elgin City. It was the hitman who came up with the winner in the last outing at Borough Briggs in a five-goal encounter and he’s more than aware of the threat this weekend’s hosts can offer.

“We’ll definitely expect more of the same from Elgin this time round. It was also a tight win for us when they came to our place too, so there’s not been a huge amount between us in the games so far.

“With the weather they’ve been having recently, I imagine the pitch will be quite heavy which will likely play a factor and but listen, we’ve been up to Elgin a few times since I joined the club including midweek runs too, and it’s not stopped us.

“We’ve had another good session at training on Thursday in preparation for the trip on Saturday and we’ll take that game plan with us to hopefully secure the three points.”

The visit to Morayshire will take in the third match on the road in a busy week for the league leaders which delivers its own challenges for part-time players.

“It can be very demanding and certainly at a part-time level where you’re working and playing these games during midweek too.

“For me, I just love playing football. I’d probably say the hardest part is probably getting yourself up for training on these freezing cold nights!! But again, when you get here and are around the boys that makes it a bit easier.

“As for the games, they take care of themselves and we look forward to each one as they come.”
