The Spartans look to extend their unbeaten run in this season’s KDM Evolution Trophy this evening when they take on Dundee Utd B at the Vanloq Community Stadium.
After two draws against SPFL 1 opposition in the shape of Cove Rangers and Peterhead followed up by an impressive 5-1 victory over Hibernian B, Douglas Samuel’s side head into the tie against the Tannadice second string XI with Match Day 4 as a crucial stage of the initial phase of the tournament.
With the top 22 in the league phase qualifying for the knock-out stages where teams are joined by the Championship clubs, Spartans currently sit 15th with tonight’s opponents just above the cut in 21st spot.
Whilst its the first time Spartans will have played the B Team, home fans will need little reminder of the meeting with the United 1st XI in the 2023-24 Viaplay Cup, the club’s first following their promotion to the SPFL set-up, which resulted in a Blair Henderson goal giving the North Edinburgh side a win that rightly earned the plaudits at the time.

Spartans: 1-1 Cove Rangers (A), 1-1 Peterhead (H), 5-1 Hibernian B (H)
Dundee Utd B: 0-3 Peterhead (A), 1-3 Elgin City (A), 3-0 Stirling Albion (A)
