SPFL 2: Match Report – Spartans 2-0 Clyde

20 April 2025

Spartans face Clyde in their penultimate home game of the SPFL 2 domestic season, looking to add to their victory achieved last time the sides met at New Douglas Park.

The hosts set out their stall from the off, seeking to turn home advantage into early opportunities however the Spartans defence remained resolute with Blair Carswell mopping up between the sticks.

Spartans became stronger as the game progressed, with Kieron Watson and Cammy Russell both attempting to break the deadlock but with little success.

It was an opening half which offered a lot of action but no goals to show for either team’s efforts as the whistle blew to signal the end of the first half of an intense affair.

Both sides continued their huff and puff endeavours in front of goal however it was Cammy Russell who turned Big Bad Wolf to finally blew the metaphorical door down in the 58th minute, tapping in from close range after a shot from Blair Henderson hit the post.

Clyde rallied and tried to level the playing field however an attempt by Clyde’s Kyle Connell was fired wide then Bradley Whyte was called upon at the back as he put his body on the line in the box to pull off a splendid block.

Ayrton Sonkur found himself on the end of a Blair Henderson flick on inside the penalty area however he could only find the keeper with his header as the hosts looked to put further light between the sides.

Lewis Hunter then entered the fray in the 68th minute, replacing Bailey Dall.  A further swap ten minutes later saw Morgan come on for Walls.

Then, in the 81st minute, Jamie Dishington secured all three points with a fantastic piece of individual skill to flick past the defender before unleashing an unstoppable drive to make it 2-0.

With just under ten to play plus an additional three of stoppages, there was certainly time for Clyde to make it a nervy ending to the game however a robust defensive display, with Man of the Match Kieran Watson at the heart of it, shut out the tourists for a clean sheet show.
